Hiking in Nepal

Creating Domain Network

Steps to create Domain Controller:( server) 1. Install server Operating system   2.Set IP address for domain controller. Give same IP address in preferred DNS server. 3.Install DNS (Domain Name System)    Go to Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs / Add or Remove windows components / Open networking services and select DNS / Click on OK / Next  (CD is needed for the purpose of installation ) 4. Install Active Directory  Go to run. Type domain controller promotion   In welcome screen click Next  Click on domain controller for a new domain  Click on domain in a new forest  Give the new domain name  Give the net bios domain name  Click on Next  Shared system volume:Next  Select on the Install and configure the DNS server on this computer / Next  Choose option permission compatible only with windows 2000 Click on Next  Finish the Restart   

Applying DHCP on Workgroup Network

Applying DHCP on Workgroup Network: Dynamic host Configuration Protocol can be used to assign Automatic (Dynamic) IP Addresses to all computers in the network. But for this at least one computer must have windows server operating system installed and it must be configured as a DHCP server. Steps: 1.     First DHCP must be installed on the Server. Open control panel  Add\Remove programs  select option Add\Remove windows components  from the list double click on networking services and select DHCP and click ok  next to install. ICS (Internet connection Sharing)

ICS (Internet connection Sharing) This is used to share a single Internet Connection among all computers in the network. This is the preferred method of accessing the Internet in networks. But heavy usage can slow down the speed of the Internet Connection. To achieve this, a computer has to be configured as the ICS Server where all internet requests will be sent and received. This is the computer to which the internet line is directly connected to. In case of dial up internet this computer will require a modem or in the case of cable internet it will require two network cards . Printer Sharing

Printer sharing This is the method which can be used to all computers print to the same print device. Where printer is concerned three terms need to be remembered: Printer: This relates to the driver software of the print device and not the actual printer. Print device: This defines the actual physical device which does the printing. Print Server   This defines the computer to which the printer is physically connected. In case of a network all print request are received by this computer and it will then forward it to the print device.
