Networking: 

Two or more computers connected together and sharing resources.

What is resource?

Any type of software or hardware that can be shared within a network.


TYPES OF RESOURCES

1. Folder/ File

2. Disk drives

3. Printers

4.Scanner

5.Optical drive

6.Windows Desktop

7.Cameras

 

What is its advantage?

It allows us to access remote resource as if it were a local resource.

 

TYPES OF NETWORK CONNECTIONS:

LAN:(Local Area Network)

This is a network limited to a fix region such as single office or single building.

All other networks are extension of LAN.


MAN: ( Metropolitan Area Network)

This is the interconnection of two or more LAN networks located far away, it is limited within a city.


WAN: ( Wide Area Network)

This is the interconnection of two or more LAN's located in distant region.

 

INTERNET:

This can be referred as a WAN network.

This uses the www. to communicate between network.

We will require a internet connection.


EXTRANET:

This is same as internet but it also allows client to access from outside.

VPN:(Virtual Private Network)

This means to use the existing telephone network to create a private network between LAN's located in distant region.

Requirement to create a Network

1. Each computers must have a network adapter installed.

2. Network cables and devices.

3.Each computer must have network(Operating system) as installed.

4.Each computer must be installed with protocol.(language)

In Linux and Unix, a shell refers to a program that is used to interpret the typed commands the user sends to the operating system.  The closest analogy in windows is  MS-DOS, Shell name is COMMAND.COM which is also used for same purpose, but it's not as powerful as our Linux Shells are!
